SEA CADET CORPS

The Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) is a voluntary youth organisation with about 13,000 members. Unlike the other MOD-funded cadet organisations, it is supported by the Marine Society and enjoys independent charitable status.  Highland RFCA therefore provides little material support to the SCC, however it does have links where other Service Cadet detachments are collocated and we encourage the participation of the SCC in all other Cadet activities, such as piping.  The SCC has detachments across the Highlands, not just close to the sea!  It aims to stimulate an interest in the importance of the sea and encourage those who are considering a career in the Sea Services. It also helps young people develop qualities of self discipline, leadership and a sense of responsibility.

Sea Cadets can experience a wide variety of boating activities from canoeing through power boating to being part of the crew of a tallship.  Boating activities take place at Unit, District, Area and National levels - this includes training fro RYA qualifications as well as competitions/regattas.  The Sea Cadets also have a fleet of offshore craft that provide experience at sea in coastal waters and opportunities for foreign visits to Europe.

But Sea cadets don't spend all their time in boats.  There are many activities that are carried out in the unit from rock l=climbing and IT to music and cookery.

If you are 10 - 18 years old, the Sea Cadets want to hear from you.
