TERRITORIAL ARMY
In times of war, conflict, national emergency or natural disaster, the UK has always depended upon the TA as an integral part of its armed forces. The 1996 Strategic Defence Review set out a fundamental change in the planned use of the Reserves in support of the UK's defence interests. All trained members of the TA are liable to call-out under the Reserve Forces Act 1996. This is designed to help volunteer forces operate readily alongside Regular Forces.
There are over 36,000 members of the TA, of which almost 2,000 of these are members of the TA in the Highlands from all walks of life and with a wide range of professions, skills and trades. They live life to the full, are dedicated team players and they are determined to succeed.
TA Centres are spread throughout the Highlands to match the major centres of population. There are a wide variety of opportunities for individuals to serve on operations in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan.
