Cadets make history in China

12.11.2019

The Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force Band and Pipes and Drums have made history by being the first Cadets to play in China.

The band was invited to perform at the 6th Nanchang International Military Tattoo in Jangxi Province, China from the 2nd to the 6th Nov as the UK representatives. This included a street parade through the city and an outdoor performance at the Prince Jeng Pavilion.

Twenty four Cadets aged from 12 to 17 made the once in a lifetime trip including Cadets from Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders ACF and Glasgow and Lanarkshire ACF. The bands were also supported by musicians from 6 SCOTS and the National Army Cadet Pipes and Drums.

The band performed with military bands from France, New Zealand, Singapore, Russia and China. The Cadets made a great impression on these professional military bands and were a credit to the Army Cadet Force and the UK.

The Cadets immersed themselves in the local culture.

This trip was made possible by the intervention of Brigadier Sir Mel Jameson who had recommended the ACF Band to the Nanchang Tattoo Organisation.
