Emma is new Isles Lieutenant’s Cadet

21.06.2019

An Army Cadet from Benbecula has been appointed as the new Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet of the Western Isles.

Cadet Corporal Emma Monk (16), from 1st Battalion the Highlanders’ Benbecula Detachment, was appointed to the year-long appointment at a presentation made during the Western Isles Company training weekend on the island.

Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Alasdair MacEachan presented Cpl Monk with her certificate of appointment (pictured) at West Camp in Balivanich as her fellow Western Isles cadets looked on.

Cpl Monk has been a member of the Army Cadets since May 2016 and is currently progressing to become one of the company’s cadet instructors, teaching both the junior cadets of the Benbecula Detachment and Western Isles Company the Cadet Force Syllabus.

Emma has also taken advantage of the many extra activities and opportunities that being a cadet offers. Back in February she spent a week in Germany completing her Skiing Foundation course in the Bavarian Alps.

As a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet Emma will – travel permitting – attend events that the Lord-Lieutenant of the Western Isles, Donald Martin, attends in his capacity as Her Majesty the Queen’s representative of the Isles.
