Highlanders celebrate Cross Country success

Army Cadets from the Highlands and Moray have returned home from a successful weekend of representing the area in Cross Country running. 

Ten cadets from 1st Battalion the Highlanders represented the Battalion at the Army Cadet Force Association Scotland Cross Country Championships held at Barry Buddon, near Dundee.

The cadets, from the Battalion’s Moray, Inverness and Ross Companies, took part in the one day event competing against cadets from across Scotland. The competition was a successful day for the Highlanders, with 10 medals and one trophy coming home.

In the junior boys event Cadet Liam Munro (14), from Elgin Detachment came 1st and Cadet Lance Corporal Kai Greig (14), from Alness Detachment came 3rd. The junior boys team also finished overall first which saw Liam and Kai, as well as Cadet Cameron Ross (14) from Dornoch Detachment and Cadet Nicolas Polata (12) from Raigmore Detachment,  awarded the Team Trophy and Team Medals.

In the senior races Cadet Lance Corporal Kayleigh Greig (15) from Alness Detachment, came 2nd in her race and Cadet Corporal Samuel Stubbs (15) from Raigmore Detachment, Cadet Lance Corporal Ryan MacLennan (16) and Cadet Sergeant Thomas Spencer (16) from Inverness Detachment, came 2nd overall in the team competition.

Liam, Kayleigh and Kai – along with Samuel who came 4th in the Senior Boys race – will now represent Scotland at the ACFA National Cross Country Championships next month at Altcar near Liverpool.
