A Dundee Sea Cadet has been appointed as the new Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for the City.

Leading Cadet Jamie McLeod (16), from Training Ship Duncan, was given the honour of the year-long appointment during a presentation at the Dundee Sea Cadets Centre.

Leading Cadet McLeod was presented with his award by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dundee, Ian Borthwick, in front of his friends and family. Prior to the presentation, the Lord-Lieutenant (who is also Dundee’s Lord Provost) inspected the ship’s company which included staff members and junior sea cadets, some of whom had only joined the unit two weeks ago.

LC McLeod joined Dundee Sea Cadets five years ago and has been involved in a wide variety of community events ever since. Having been recently promoted to Leading Cadet he is now working towards the rarely achieved status of Petty Officer Cadet. He has taken full advantage of the opportunities the Sea Cadets offer and has achieved the Bronze DofE Award, and peer educator and Rowing Coxswain status. He has also qualified in Advanced Communications and Information Systems.

He has also been a huge part of the District teams in rowing, sailing and football which resulted in Fife and Tayside District winning the Montrose Trophy for the second year running.

As the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, LC McLeod will be present at events Mr Borthwick attends in his capacity as Her Majesty the Queen’s representative for the city.

The evening also saw Leading Cadet Ellie Burnett promoted to rarely achieved Petty Officer Cadet. LC Burnett was also awarded her promotion by the Lord-Lieutenant Ian Borthwick.
