For 2025, 42 Lord-Lieutenants’ Cadets have been appointed across the 21 Lord Lieutenancies in the Highland RFCA area.
The cadets (some of whom are pictured above) are drawn from the Sea Cadets (SCC), Royal Marines Cadets (RMC), Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC). The appointment is recognised as one of the highest honours a cadet can achieve.
When on duty, the Lord-Lieutenants’ Cadets wear a distinctive badge of their appointment to denote their role. They assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required, often on parade for royal visits, and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of the region.
The selection of duties for Lord-Lieutenants’ Cadets will be made by the Lord-Lieutenant’s office.
The Lord-Lieutenants’ Cadet is a high-profile appointment, and, as such, it is expected that the candidate should be of the highest standard, with excellent bearing, good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with others.
The successful cadets must be able to support His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for a full year following their appointment, starting on Armed Forces Day (28 June 2025).
The award is in the form of a framed certificate and badges, presented by the Lord-Lieutenant, or Deputy-Lieutenant of each of the 21 areas at award ceremonies.
