A Moray-based Reservist’s allotment project for fellow Reservists and Veterans is taking shape.

Captain Scott Shaw, of 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, has spent more than a year carefully planning the outdoor space in Elgin, seeing it as an area where nature and community can come together.

The environmental and wellbeing initiative is part of The Global Charge, a UK 1st Division project focused on securing a better environment for future generations.

Once complete, the allotment will provide a welcoming space where Reservists and Veterans can unwind, connect and enjoy the outdoors.

Planting will begin soon in the polytunnel.

Scott is aiming to formally unveil the project during Armed Forces Week in June.

Recent progress includes Scott picking up a variety of seeds to get planting in the polytunnel under way.

Scott (pictured) said: “My ambition is to create something that will bring environmental and mental health benefits to the Armed Forces community in Moray for years to come.”

He added: “Once everything is in place, I’d love to open it up to local schools and the wider community so everyone in Elgin can enjoy the space and get involved.”

Earlier work saw Scott restoring an arch and establishing a range of plants and fruit trees, including apple and cherry. Picnic benches and raised flower beds have also been installed.
