A former cadet with 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force (ACF) – who is now an adult instructor with Dorset ACF – has achieved her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).
Sergeant Lani Jones’ DofE journey began during her school years in the Highlands. When her school didn’t offer the Gold level, she joined 1st Battalion The Highlanders ACF to continue her progression. After ageing out as a cadet and later moving to England, Lani reignited her DofE ambitions by transferring to Dorset ACF, where she resumed her path towards Gold.
Her Gold adventure has been as diverse as it has been challenging. Earlier this year, Lani undertook her Practice Expedition in the rugged Welsh countryside, an experience that tested her resilience and team spirit. Lani’s team ventured into the stunning Peak District of England for the final Gold Assessed Expedition. To cap it off, her assessor hailed from a Northern Ireland battalion – ensuring every home nation contributed to her success!
Reflecting on her achievement, Lani said: “If it weren’t for doing my Gold through the Army Cadets, I would not have walked through these beautiful places (main image) with a great group of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) that I got to meet on the way.”
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is key to the Army Cadets experience, encouraging personal growth, adventure, and community service. Cadets and CFAVs up to age 25 are encouraged to get involved. Find out more about DofE.
