Làmhan was presented with the Armed Forces Covenant on 18 June.
Highland RFCA’s Defence Relationship Manager Hayley Munro handed over the certificate at the charity’s base in Callander to Làmhan founder and Chief Executive Officer Jo Watson (pictured holding her certificate with canine helper Molly).
Làmhan is dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional sewing and textile crafts, particularly heritage skills at risk of being lost. Through hands-on workshops and public education, it provides opportunities for people to develop sewing skills, fostering creativity, self-sufficiency, and a deeper appreciation for Scotland’s textile heritage.
Làmhan provides a welcoming space where individuals can learn, collaborate, and promote a more sustainable future through sewing, making, and mending.
The charity recently announced that it will offer young people in Stirlingshire the chance to learn kiltmaking for free. National Saturday Club, a 30-week programme, is open to those aged 13 to 16. Funded by the National Lottery Awards for All, it runs from September to May and will teach youngsters a range of heritage textile crafts. The last eight weeks of the course will be centred around kiltmaking and led by expert tutors.
Làmhan first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in May. By signing the Covenant, it has become one of 13,000+ organisations to pledge support to the Armed Forces community.
Its commitment to honouring the Covenant includes a pledge to offer limited employer support to members of the Armed Forces community. It will also publicise its commitments through its social media and website.
Làmhan is now eligible to apply for a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award. The ERS Awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
