Staff Sergeant Instructor (SSI) Malcolm MacKinnon has officially stepped down from his role as Battalion Media Officer (BMO) at 2nd Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force (ACF)
He had held the position since 2007.
Originally from North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, SSI MacKinnon was a civil servant for 15 years, working for a missile base. He then relocated and retrained as a commercial photographer at Aberdeen College. For many years he would shoot property for estate agent and law firm Aberdein Considine on weekdays and weddings at weekends. Aberdein Considine is an Armed Forces Covenant signatory and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award holder.
He joined the ACF while his daughter was a cadet and for most of his time as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer juggled being BMO with his full-time job managing a photo lab in Aberdeen.
SSI MacKinnon is being succeeded as BMO by Sergeant Instructor (SI) Smith. Born in Aboyne, SI Smith has been a professional photographer for 30 years. He joined the ACF in 2022 and until now has been the Media Officer for Vittoria Company.
Many thanks from Highland RFCA to SSI MacKinnon for all the great images and stories he has contributed to the Association over the years.
