Colonel Gordon Rae has been appointed Colonel Cadets for 51st Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland.

The appointment was confirmed on 13 January.

Colonel Rae’s cadet career began in 1990 with the Angus and Dundee Battalion Army Cadet Force (ACF), where he completed the Army Cadet Syllabus 4 Star qualification.

Following time in Aberdeen Universities Officer Training Corps, he rejoined Angus and Dundee Battalion ACF as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer where he became an Adult Under Officer in 1999 and was commissioned in 2001.

After transferring to 2nd Battalion The Highlanders ACF in 2002, he held roles including Detachment Commander, Commander of Vittoria and Somme Companies, and Battalion Training Officer. From 2013 to 2016, he served as Deputy Commandant, focusing on cadet and volunteer development.

In addition to his role as Vice President of the Army Cadet Commissions Board since 2023, Gordon is currently serving as a Section Officer at the Edinburgh Academy Combined Cadet Force, where he continues to contribute to the training and leadership of cadets.

As Commandant of 2nd Battalion The Highlanders ACF from 2019 to 2023, he led initiatives to enhance cadet training, development, and volunteer support. Gordon’s leadership has consistently emphasised cadet-centred opportunities, safety, and inclusivity.

In his civilian career, he is Head of Computing Science at the Edinburgh Academy and Deputy Principal Assessor for Advanced Higher Computing Science with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. He holds Master of Science degrees in Leadership and Computer Enhanced Mathematics Education and has more than 20 years of educational experience.

A resident of Edinburgh, Gordon enjoys hill walking, Munro bagging, yoga, and gym workouts. He is passionate about diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding, fostering supportive environments for cadets, volunteers, and students to reach their full potential.

Colonel Rae extended his thanks to his predecessor as Colonel Cadets, Colonel Alex McNamee, for his commitment and dedication to the role over the past few years, wishing him well in his new endeavours with both the ACF and Army Cadet Charitable Trust Scotland.
