Around 700 secondary pupils from schools in Fife attended Leuchars Station for Exercise Leuchars May Challenge from 13 to 15 May.

More than 200 pupils took part in a round robin of various interactive Army stands on each of the three days of the engagement event. The intent was to provide a taster of career opportunities available in the British Army.

The event – taking part in one of the massive hangars at the former RAF base – formed part of 51st Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland’s plans for 2025.

The massive main hangar at Leuchars had multiple stands for the pupils to try.

The day saw groups of pupils visiting each of the stands for 15 to 20 minutes each. Units represented included: 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (7 SCOTS), Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, 71 Engineer Regiment, 154 (Scottish) Royal Logistic Corps, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, 212 (Highland) Battery Royal Artillery, and the Royal Corps of Signals.

Throughout the event, pupils had the chance to operate a digger, try out musical instruments, try on webbing and bergans, take part in physical training, vehicle recovery, command tasks, and much, much more.

Highland RFCA attended on all three days, setting our gazebo up with our bear mascots attracting lots of attention.

A field kitchen provided the pupils, teachers and military personnel with lunch.
