One of the most exciting activities Army Cadets take part in is shooting. It’s the main activity that differentiates the Army Cadets from most other youth organisations.

During the summer, cadets from across The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion Army Cadet Force (ACF) travelled down to Bisley Ranges in Surrey to take part in The 155th Imperial Meeting 2024.

Cadet James Thompson, Corporal Iona McLean, Lance Corporal James MacEwan, Sergeant Morgan Graham, Cadet Daniel Black, and Corporal Lauren Carr showcased all the hard work they have been doing in preparation for the competition.

Out of 284 cadets from across the different Cadet Services – Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Combined Cadet Force and RAF Air Cadets – two cadets stood out.

They were the Battalion’s Cadet James Thompson and Corporal Lauren Carr, who came in the top 50. Cadet Thompson was 45th and Corporal Carr came 31st.

Corporal Carr was also invited to Exercise Bisley Bullet to see what the setup for the international team is like.

This would be a fantastic opportunity for anyone but, at only 14 years old, Corporal Carr was the youngest participant there and the only Scottish Cadet. Corporal Carr came third in the individual competition and her team scored joint first for number of bulls.

She said: “I am so excited to take what I have learned from the coaches at Bisley and pass it on to the other members of the shooting team.”
