A group from Tayforth Universities Officers’ Training Corps (UOTC) recently helped make improvements to the Dundee Therapy Garden.

The garden is a relaxed and welcoming environment for Veterans of both the Armed Forces and Blue Light Services. Veterans can access services including counselling and mental health support across a range of issues including physical, psychological and social well-being.

Captain Chad Grierson, Tayforth’s Permanent Staff Administrative Officer (PSAO), visited the garden in September with staff there mentioning that they had received £30,000 of Lottery funding to upgrade the garden. They had numerous raised garden beds that they needed help to remove owing to them only having one part-time gardener.

On 24 October a small team from Tayforth UOTC and Chad’s wife Morven Grierson went along and helped take down eight of the raised beds. It was a difficult task, but everyone got stuck in and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Fiona Hutcheon and her small team at the charity were overwhelmed with the support offered by the UOTC, with the unit looking forward to returning to lend a hand with future projects.

◼︎ The Universities Officers’ Training Corps (UOTC) is a unique place where students from all walks of life thrive, have exciting and rewarding experiences and make friends for life. This can be done alongside studies, with the added bonus of being paid with no commitment to a career in the Army after university.
