Cadets from Caithness took part in a Tri-Service Shooting Competition last weekend.
The day-long event saw Army Cadets from 1st Battalion the Highlander’s Caithness Company, Air Cadets from 1769 Thurso Squadron and 1285 Caithness Squadron and Sea Cadets from Wick and Thurso compete to see who were the top shooters from their respective cadet service.
The competition, hosted by the Army Cadets, was competed at three levels: Junior, Senior and Adult and shot at the Army Cadet ranges in Wick and Halkirk. The end of the day saw medals awarded for the Top Service Shot for the top three shooters from each service, Top Overall Shot and Top Service.
The Top Overall Shots were Army Cadet Lance Corporal Caitlin Green in the Junior category, Army Cadet Corporal Louise Sinclair in the Senior category and Sea Cadet Chief Petty Officer Martyn Sutherland in the Adult category. The final trophy presented was the Top Service, calculated from an overall average of each service’s shooters, which was awarded to the Air Cadets.
Caithness Army Cadets Company Commander Major Stephen Mezals, who organised the event, said: “Everyone was in good spirits and it was a great insight into what each cadet service does. A big well done to all who took part and of course congratulations to the Air Cadets on their win.”
