Members of the Dundee community came together on May 21 for a
tri-service cadet open day.
The event, held at the Reserve Centre at Strathmore Avenue, was hosted by adult volunteers and young people from Sea Cadets, the Army Cadet Force and RAF Air Cadets.
Co-host Highland RFCA was also in attendance with a gazebo and refreshment station.
The event gave 100+ guests – including Farzana Abid and Zahira Anwar from Dundee International Women’s Centre – their first opportunity in more than two years to see what cadets in Dundee have to offer.
Activities on the day included laser shooting, fieldcraft, first aid station with CPR dummies, a selection of boats, and a superbly-realistic Grob Tutor flight simulator.
More than 50 cadets and adult volunteers worked together to make the day a huge success. Thanks go to all the units involved, including TS Duncan, Angus and Dundee Battalion Army Cadet Force, and 2450 (Dudhope) and 1232 (City of Dundee) Squadrons of the RAF Air Cadets.
The event was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Gilly Moncur MBE, Chair of Highland RFCA’s Engagement and Outreach Committee; and Glenda Gray from Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold award holder Aberdeenshire Council. Glenda is also Aberdeenshire Council’s representative on the Highland RFCA Gold Network group.
