A group of cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) from across the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion Army Cadet Force (ACF) attended the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on May 6 in London.
Ten cadets and two CFAVs set off from the Army Reserve Centre in Stirling on May 5, heading for London to attend the Coronation the next day. The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion ACF cadets were the only ones from Scotland invited to attend. Each Company nominated cadets for this huge honour, ensuring that the whole Battalion was represented.
The selected cadets were: Lance Corporal Amelia Wisniewska from A (Stirling) Company’s Stirling Detachment, Lance Corporal Davide Grigore and Lance Corporal Poppy Waterall from B (Falkirk) Company’s Grangemouth Detachment, Lance Corporal Lucy Kettyles and Lance Corporal James Thompson from C (Clackmannan) Company’s Alloa Detachment, Lance Corporal Wiktoria Dulska and Lance Corporal James Scott from D (Argyll) Company’s Dunoon Detachment, Cadet Sergeant Ben Mackay from E (Dumbarton West) Company’s Milngavie Detachment, Cadet Natan Sienko from E Company’s Helensburgh Detachment, and Corporal Rachael Davis from F (Dumbarton East) Squadron’s Bishopbriggs Detachment.
The cadets were accompanied by Sergeant Major Instructor Alan (Sid) Kelly and Officer Commanding of E Company, Captain Fay Whay. Captain Whay said: “I’ve got two cadets from my own Company coming down this weekend, so it’s a great privilege to be able to spend the weekend with them and celebrate.”
All of the cadets were excited to be invited to such a momentous occasion. Cadet Sergeant Mackay, the most senior cadet in attendance, said: “This is an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and not one that many people get. I’m a little bit nervous, but mainly really excited to be taking part.”
In addition, twenty Army Cadets from the rest of the UK were taking part in the Coronation.
