2nd Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force (ACF) hosted a Coronation-themed party for Buchan Day Opportunities on 4 May.
Adult social care and health services in Aberdeenshire are co-ordinated and delivered by a partnership of Aberdeenshire Council and NHS Grampian, two Armed Forces Covenant signatories and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Award holders in the HRFCA-area. The Scottish Government legislated to integrate health and social care, which formed the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) as a result.
Buchan Day Opportunities, part of the AHSCP, is a day service that helps adults with mental, physical and complex challenges or disabilities to meet their needs in their local communities. It provides a range of services and activities in Peterhead, Mintlaw and the surrounding areas. One of the leisure activities they offer is crafts.
The Craft Group at Buchan Day Opportunities has been assisting the 2nd Battalion The Highlanders ACF and Highland RFCA Professional Support Staff with the preparation of uniforms since returning to face-to-face training in 2021. The Craft Group has been helping with making the accompanying belts, punching holes in the bonnets as well as fitting badges and plumes for the uniforms used by the cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
The reciprocal agreement benefits both parties. As a thank you for the support, the Battalion occasionally hosts the group for lunch and activities at their Cadet Training Centre in Boddam. This time, the Battalion decided to host a party to celebrate the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The Battalion’s County Executive Officer, Major Stuart Eddie, said: “The three service users thanked us, saying they had a really great time. I have to say the staff really enjoyed themselves too.”
The Craft Group’s Care Co-ordinator, Mrs Marilyn Eddie, said: “The use of the facility and the ‘picnic’ made what would have been a small affair into something quite special for the group.”
