Twenty-two cadets from 1st Battalion The Highlanders competed at the Scottish ACFA Athletic Championships in Grangemouth.

The day went well – despite the classic Scottish weather mix of sun rain and hail – with all the cadets shrugging off the changeable May conditions.

This was the second event the battalion’s new sports officer Lieutenant Ryan Day, from Forres Detachment, has organised since taking over the post at the end of last year.

He was assisted on the day by fellow Forres adults SI Kelly Nicol and SI Graeme Wells who made sure all the cadets were fully briefed and knew where they needed to be and when.

The battalion did every well at Grangemouth, the Junior Boys team came 3rd overall and the Intermediate Boys Team came 2nd, with over half of the cadets receiving medals (15 in total).

LCpl Megan Jack (18), from Fortrose Detachment, came 1st in the Senior Girls Javelin meaning that she will be representing Scotland at the Nationals next month in Grantham.

She said: “Representing my battalion was really great and I am so proud to be going to the Nationals to represent my country.”
