Army Cadets from the Highlands and Moray have returned from successfully representing Scotland in National Cross Country.
Cadet Liam Munro (14), Cadet Lance Corporal Kai Greig (14), Cadet Corporal Kayleigh Greig (15), and Cadet Corporal Samuel Stubbs (15), from 1st Battalion the Highlanders, represented Scotland at the Army Cadet Force Association (ACFA) National Cross Country Championships, held at Altcar Training Camp, near Liverpool.
The four cadets, selected for the Scottish team after their success in the Scottish Meet held near Dundee last month, competed against Army Cadets from across the UK. The competition was quite a successful day for Scotland and the Highlanders with plenty of medals returning north of the border, including the Battalion having a new UK Cross Country Champion.
Cdt Munro, from Elgin Detachment, won the Junior Boys’ race – even after being accidentally directed the wrong way and having to backtrack and catch up with the runners. Also taking home a medal in the same race was LCpl Greig, from Alness Detachment, who came 3rd. Both Liam and Kai also earned a silver team medal, due to the Junior Boys’ Team finishing 2nd overall.
In the Senior Boys’ race Cpl Stubbs, from Raigmore Detachment, although finishing 10th individually earned a 2nd place team medal for the Senior Boys, while Cpl Greig, from Alness Detachment, in the Senior Girls’ race also finished 10th – with the girls team finishing 5th overall.
Unfortunately, due to prior travel arrangements and the distances the Scottish Team had to travel, the cadets could not stay for their medal presentations. However, they will be presented locally back in the Highlands.
