Caitlin makes history

April 12, 2018

A Caithness Army Cadet has represented Scotland in National Rugby.

Cadet Lance Corporal Caitlin Green (15), of 1st Battalion the Highlanders’ Thurso Detachment, represented Scotland at the Army Cadet Force Association Rugby Sevens Championships at Altcar Training Camp, near Liverpool.

This was only the second time the battalion had taken part in the rugby, however, this was the first time females had taken part – after Girls Rugby was included in the Army Cadet Sporting Calendar for the first time at the end last year.

To be selected for the team Caitlin, with a huge help from her mum, made the long journey from Caithness – over several training weekends – to Glasgow.

The competition saw the team play against cadets from across the UK. Unfortunately the weather took its toll on the day and the competition had to be halted without a winner being announced. However, this did not dampen the team’s spirits at being the first cadets to play Girls Rugby for the ACF.

LCpl Green said: “This was a great experience for me to go and represent Scotland in rugby and meet new cadets.”

Caitlin is already setting her sights on her next sporting event, the ACFA Scotland Athletics Championships, being held in Grangemouth next month.

LCpl Green being awarded her Sports Colours by Major Henry Canavan, ACFA Scotland Sports Advisor.
