A Ross-shire Adult Volunteer’s dedication has been recognised with the presentation of a Cadet Forces Commission.
Staff Sergeant Instructor Lorraine Wright (46), of Alness Detachment, 1st Battalion the Highlanders, has been promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
2Lt Wright, who has been Detachment Commander at Alness since July 2012, joined the Army Cadet Force in 2009 with Alness as an instructor.
On top of her detachment duties she is also the Duke of Edinburgh Officer of Ross Company – which Alness is part of – covering from Portree across to Dingwall, visiting each detachment to help the cadets move towards the completion of a DofE Award.
Lorraine is one of the first adults of the Battalion to be awarded the new Cadet Forces Commission, the first commission to be introduced in over 100 years. The Commission was introduced to recognise the immense contribution made by volunteer staff as leaders of national uniformed youth organisations sponsored by the Ministry of Defence.
Lorraine was awarded her Second Lieutenant by the Battalion’s Honorary Colonel Carolyn Caddick who said: “It was an honour and a privilege to present 2Lt Wright with her promotion – especially as it was in front of her Alness Detachment which she has supported for the past nine years. She is an inspirational role model for the cadets and I know her efforts are much appreciated.”
