Birlinn Tech was presented with the Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award on 28 June.

Highland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director Ray Watt presented both certificates at the organisation’s headquarters in Inverness. Ray (centre) is pictured with Birlinn Tech Director Alasdair Macdonald (right) and Operations Manager Duncan Hodgson.

Birlinn Tech specialises in project management, rope access and rescue services in the renewable energy sector. Its services include wind turbine blade repair, painting, cleaning and inspection.

The company first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in April. By signing the Covenant, it has become one of the almost 12,000 organisations to pledge support to the Armed Forces community.

Its commitment to honouring the Covenant includes pledges to:

  • Support Reservists, offering additional days of annual leave in order to carry out their duties.
  • Offer work placements, insight days, mentoring schemes and guaranteed interviews to Veterans seeking employment.
  • Extend guaranteed places on Open Days to members of the Armed Forces community.
  • Offer additional annual leave to Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) to help them carry out their training requirement.
  • Offer insight days to older Cadets looking for apprenticeships and further education opportunities.
  • Engage with the Career Transition Partnership and with relevant charities to offer work opportunities to the Wounded, Injured and Sick.
  • Promote the Armed Forces Covenant, the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and support for the Armed Forces community to staff, customers/service users, supply chains and the wider public.
  • Support or promote Armed Forces events, such as Armed Forces Day/Week, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance activities.

Birlinn Tech also received the ERS Bronze Award. The ERS Awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The Bronze, Silver and Gold levels are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

Director Alasdair Macdonald said: “We are immensely proud to receive the Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award certificates. This acknowledgment underscores our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community, and it reflects our dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for Veterans and Reservists. At Birlinn Tech, we recognise the valuable skills and experiences that members of the Armed Forces bring to our team, and we are honoured to stand with them.”
