Fife Sports and Leisure Trust was presented with its Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award on August 8.
Highland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director (REED) Roy McLellan presented both certificates at the Trust’s headquarters in Dunfermline.
Fife Sports and Leisure Trust was established in 2008 to operate and manage sport and leisure facilities on behalf of Fife Council. Under the terms of the business transfer agreement with Fife Council, the company is responsible for the operational management, delivery and development of the local authority’s sport and leisure facilities. Fife Council is an Armed Forces Covenant signatory and ERS Gold Award holder.
The Trust first signed the Covenant in April 2023. By signing the Covenant, the Trust has become one of the 10,000+ organisations to pledge support to the Armed Forces community.
The Trust’s commitment to honouring the Covenant includes pledges to:
- Support Reservists by offering them additional days of paid leave.
- Offer work placements, insight days, and guaranteed interview schemes to Veterans seeking employment.
- Support the employment of service spouses, partners and dependants.
- Promote employment schemes aimed at the Armed Forces Community.
- Offer additional paid leave to Cadet Force Adult Volunteers to help them carry out their training requirement.
- Offer insight days to older cadets looking for further educational opportunities.
- Engage with the Career Transition Partnership.
- Support and promote Armed Forces events, such as Armed Forces Day/Week, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance activities.
- Establish an internal Armed Forces Network within the organisation.
- Appoint an Armed Forces Champion.
- Engage with local military units.
- Offer and/or promote commercial discounts for members of the Armed Forces Community.
The Trust also received the ERS Bronze Award. The ERS Awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
