Cadets from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Moray Company came first in their annual fieldcraft competition.
The nine Cadets triumphed in the battalion’s annual North Highland Cadet Tactical Competition held at the Fort George Training Area in Ardersier.
The team competed against Cadets from the battalion’s Caithness, Ross and Inverness Companies, as well as a second team from Moray and a guest team from the Dollar Academy Combined Cadet Force in Clackmannanshire. The Cadets took part in twenty stands over the weekend, designed to test their knowledge from their Cadet training syllabus and skills across a wide range of subjects, as well as their teamwork, endurance and leadership. All teams performed admirably.
Sunday saw the end of the competition with the prizegiving, were the Moray A Team won the overall competition and also the St John’s First Aid Trophy for the First Aid part of the competition. The team was led by Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Daisy Burnside from Culloden Detachment, who also won the Best Section Commander Trophy. Coming close second were Inverness Company’s A Team, led by Cadet Company Sergeant Major Oskar Wineberg, who also won the March & Shoot Trophy.
It was the second year in a row that the Moray A Team has won the NHCTC. The winning team consisted of RSM Daisy Burnside (18) and LCpl Corporal Ewen Mearns (17) from Culloden Detachment, Sgt Jade Walton (16), Cpl Ross Clarke (15) and LCpl James Sutherland (16) from Elgin Detachment, Sgt Jake Crawford (17) and Sgt Finlay Rae (16) from Forres Detachment, CSgt Grigor Forbes (17) and Cdt Ross Brown (13) from Nairn Detachment.
