The Employer Engagement team from Highland RFCA enjoyed a fun-packed day at the 2023 Stirling Highland Games on August 19.
The HRFCA gazebo proved popular, with many of the thousands of Games visitors stopping by on the day to say hello and to learn more about the value to organisations of employing Armed Forces Reservists. This was despite some challenging and very windy weather conditions on the day!
Events included track and field, cycling, Highland Dancing and The Bruce Challenge, a farmers’ walk exclusive to Stirling that saw athletes carrying two huge boulders as far as they could, and the ever-popular Heavyweights Competition (Hammer/Shot Put/Weight for Distance/Caber Toss). There was also an Adaptive Heavyweights Competition with a team of six (the Wounded Highlanders) sponsored by Highland RFCA. This is the second year in a row that HRFCA has sponsored that competition.
There were also a village marquee filled with traders and an Outdoor Exhibit Showcase.
The Red Deer and District Pipe Band and Stirling Gaelic Choir provided music.
At last year’s Games, Stirling Highland Games was presented with the Armed Forces Covenant and the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award. These awards recognise the support the Games gives to the Armed Forces.
Since then, Stirling Highland Games has continued its journey up the defence ladder of support, receiving the ERS Silver Award this year. That was presented to Games President Matt McGrandles during a ceremony at The Black Watch Castle & Museum on June 22 to recognise and celebrate the successes of the 29 Silver recipients in the Highland-RFCA area.

Following that event, Matt said: “After achieving Silver, we welcome the opportunity to build on our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces. We look forward to seeing where this partnership takes us.”
Stirling Highland Games returns on Saturday August 17 2024.
