Two organisations in the Highland RFCA area have been awarded the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award – the second highest accolade for supporting the Armed Forces community.
An official ceremony will be held on Thursday at the Great Hall in Edinburgh Castle where Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce and Arbroath-based IED Training Solutions Limited will receive their awards along with recipients from the Lowland RFCA area.
Damon Scott, Chief Executive, Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Our partnership with the Armed Forces is an important part of our activities and we are delighted that our efforts thus far have been rewarded with the Silver Award. This recognition embeds the relationship further and we look forward to continuing to communicate the benefits that both reservists and veterans can offer to business.”
Ian Clark, Director, IED Training Solutions Limited, said: “As our business continues to grow we’re absolutely delighted to receive the Silver Award. We continue to strengthen our support for current and former Service personnel through employment and by providing cost effective and nationally recognised courses that assist with career transition. This award confirms our commitment to support service personnel, and having served full careers in the Royal Marines, we understand better than most just how important that support can be.”
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme was established in 2014 to recognise and reward UK employers for their support and commitment to Defence. The scheme was a commitment made in the July 2013 White Paper ‘Reserves in the Future Forces 2020’.
Commenting on the announcement of the Silver Awards, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans, the Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP said: “I am delighted to congratulate the recipients of this year’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver awards.
“A Silver award recognises the fantastic efforts of employers throughout the UK who have both elevated their commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant and provided actual benefit to the Armed Forces Community. The winners should all be proud of the life-changing impact and fresh opportunities they are providing to our Reservists, veterans, wounded injured and sick and their families.
“We’ve seen a record number of winners this year, which shows that the Armed Forces family talent pool is also providing tangible business benefit.”
Silver Award holders demonstrate support for Defence by actively communicating and projecting a positive image of Defence to their employees via established HR policies and procedures. They also support Reservists by giving them the flexibility needed to plan and fulfil their annual training and mobilisation commitments.
