Army cadets from Aviemore spent their training evening learning about the local emergency services.
The cadets from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Aviemore Detachment visited the Fire Station on Tuesday 7 June to learn about the role of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service within the local community.
The visit was organised as part of the ‘Cadet and the Community’ section of their cadet training syllabus, which aims to promote citizenship and develop better individuals in the future.
The staff at the station gave the cadets a tour and showed some of the equipment they use, as well as giving them the all-important sit within the fire engine. The cadets also received a demonstration of use of the hoses, getting to roll them out, and even getting the chance to use them (main image).
Following the visit, Aviemore Detachment Commander, Major Iain Cassidy (67) said: “The visit to Aviemore Fire Station was a big success, with the cadets getting plenty of firefighting practice.”
