Three Army Cadets from Caithness have seen their recent hard work rewarded.

Cadet Rohan Bradley (13), from Thurso Detachment, 1st Battalion the Highlanders, was awarded his One Star Army Proficiency Certificate.

Fellow Thurso cadet Lance Corporal Caitlin Green (15) and Lance Corporal Keoni Jones (14), from Castletown Detachment, were both awarded their BTEC Level One Certificates in Teamwork, Personal Skills and Citizenship.

During their time in the ACF cadets follow a syllabus called the Army Proficiency Certificate (APC) which is split into five different levels. Each APC level teaches cadets ten different subjects from Shooting and Fieldcraft to Community Engagement and Sport, getting more difficult at each level. By passing his One Star training Rohan is now halfway through his cadet training.

LCpls Jones and Green both completed their BTEC qualifications through the Cadet Force’s qualification authority, the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation. The BTEC Level 1 qualification is equivalent to an SCQF Level 4 with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The internationally-recognised qualification builds life-skills in leadership, teamwork, communications, problem-solving and fitness and is free to complete.

There was no extra work for cadets to complete to achieve their BTECs, all they had to do was complete their One Star Cadet Training and fill in an application form to be enrolled onto CVQO for their cadet training to be formally recognised with the organisation, a form which Cdt Bradley has now also filled in to be recognised for the qualification.

The cadets were presented with their certificates by Caithness Company Adult Instructor, Sergeant Instructor Connall Bain.
