Hard work pays off for Orkney cadets

February 6, 2018

Army Cadets from Kirkwall have been reaping the rewards of their recent hard work.

Orkney & Shetland Battery (1st Battalion the Highlanders ACF) cadets: Cadet Lance Bombardier Keiran Bews (17); Cadet Marvin Drever (16); Cadet Hamish Ditchfield (14); Cadet Conal Caithness (14); Cadet William Dougall (13); and Cadet Hollie Towers (15) were presented with their BTEC Level One Certificates in Teamwork, Personal Skills and Citizenship.

The cadets from the Battery’s Kirkwall and St Ola Detachments completed their qualifications through the ACF’s qualification authority, the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation.

The qualification is equivalent to an SCQF Level 4 with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The internationally recognised free qualification builds life-skills in leadership, teamwork, communications, problem-solving and fitness.

To achieve their BTECs, the cadets had to complete their One Star Cadet Training and fill in an application form to be enrolled onto CVQO for their cadet training to be formally recognised with the organisation.

Adult Under Officer Catherine Browne (33), Kirkwall Detachment Commander, and Sergeant Major Instructor Anthony Robertson (48), St Ola Detachment Commander, presented the cadets with their certificates.
