As part of the £6.6 million Dunfermline Army Reserve Centre (ARC) rebuild project, main contractor Henry Brothers has undertaken a number of social value projects in the Dunfermline area.

The latest of these saw five picnic tables donated to Fife Council for use by the local community.

Three of these have been installed in Dunfermline Public Park, and one each in Pittencrieff Park and St Leonards Park. All three locations are close to the Army Reserve Centre.

Henry Brothers purchased the picnic tables from the Scottish Prison Service. They were made by inmates at His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Glenochil as part of the prison’s joinery training programme. The programme is designed to increase the skills of the participants while helping with their rehabilitation.

The presentation took place in Dunfermline Public Park on 9 July. Present were Henry Brothers Contracts Director Gavin Fry, Highland RFCA Chief Executive Brigadier (Retired) Mark Dodson MBE DL, Highland RFCA Head of Estates Fraser Kennedy, Tammy Breingan and Neil Mackison from HMP Glenochil, and Major Andy Honeyman and Warrant Officer Class 1 (Regimental Sergeant Major) Danny Knox of 154 (Scottish) Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (RLC).

Ian Henry, Corporate Responsibility director at Henry Brothers, said: “As a responsible business, Henry Brothers is passionate about supporting the areas in which it operates and providing opportunities to enhance local spaces.

“This initiative embodies our core values, reflecting our commitment to social responsibility and collaboration for positive impact, and we are thrilled that we can give back in a way that benefits the wider community.”

Adele Rae, general manager at SPS Fauldhouse, said: “Individuals in the care of the Scottish Prison Service have been involved in the manufacturing of a range of quality garden products for over 35 years.

“The joinery training programmes in our prisons give people the opportunity to gain valuable new skills and qualifications and make positive changes to their lives. We are delighted to see that their work is benefiting the local community in Dunfermline.”

The Dunfermline ARC serves as the Regimental Headquarters for 154 (Scottish) Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (RLC). It is also home to 239 (Fife) Transport Squadron and the Dunfermline Detachment of The Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force (ACF).

The new building will provide first-class facilities, allowing all the units housed there a chance to grow, and will impact positively on training, recruitment and retention.

The Army-funded project is due to be completed in 2025.
