Keenan (Recycling) Ltd has been presented with the Armed Forces Covenant and Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award.

HRFCA Regional Employer Engagement Director Ray Watt (pictured) handed over the certificates to Andrew Gerlach (Head of Customer Service) at Keenan’s Aberdeen Head Office on March 3.

By signing the Covenant, Keenan (Recycling) Ltd has become one of the 9,000+ organisations to have pledged support to the Armed Forces community.

Keenan’s commitment to honouring the Covenant includes pledges to:

  • Promote the fact it is an Armed Forces-friendly organisation.
  • Support the employment of veterans.
  • Support employees who choose to be members of the Reserve Forces by accommodating their training and deployment.
  • Support employees who are Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
  • Support Armed Forces Day and other National events.
  • Support Armed Forces Charities.
  • Offer a discount to the Armed Forces community.

Keenan (Recycling) Ltd first signed the Covenant in January.

Keenan (Recycling) Ltd also received the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award. The ERS awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

Keenan (Recycling) Ltd is a food waste recycling company, collecting food waste from businesses, brokers and local authorities. Some of those businesses include restaurants, hotels, care homes, hospitals, prisons and cafes. The food waste collected is then transformed into electricity, heat and fuel. Keenan is developing a Net Zero Transition Plan with a clear aim of creating a sustainable zero-carbon food waste collection business by 2030.

Ray said: “We are delighted that Keenan has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and received the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award. The company already employs ex-forces personnel and is fully aware of the value these veterans bring to the organisation. We look forward to working with Keenan in the future.”
