Shearwater Marine Services Ltd was presented with the Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award on 11 September.
Highland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director Roy McLellan presented both certificates to QHSSE Manager Stefan Blincow (pictured, with Stefan left) at the firm’s Dunoon HQ.
Shearwater Marine Services Ltd is a diving and marine engineering contractor based on the Cowal Peninsula. The company was founded in 1992 by Alastair Baird and Tom Brannan and has since grown to become one of the UK’s main diving and marine engineering services suppliers. It works with clients in both the private and public sectors.
Shearwater Marine Services Ltd first signed the Covenant in May 2023. By signing the Covenant, it has become one of the 10,000+ organisations to pledge support to the Armed Forces community.
Shearwater Marine Services Ltd’s commitment to honouring the Covenant includes pledges to:
- Promote the fact it is an Armed Forces-friendly organisation.
- Support the employment of Veterans and Service leavers.
- Support the Ministry of Defence Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) Scheme as a registered learning provider through sister company Professional Diving Academy.
- Support national events such as Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal Day and Remembrance activities.
With a strong history in HMNB Clyde, RNAD Coulport and Rosyth Dockyards, Shearwater Marine Services Ltd is in a strong position to offer career opportunities to the Armed Forces Community. Through its partners and connections it is able to offer discounted rates for service personnel with the Professional Diving Academy as well as employment opportunities in an expanding organisation.
Shearwater Marine Services Ltd also received the ERS Bronze Award. The ERS Awards encourage employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
