Army Cadets from Ross-shire recently had the chance to put their first aid skills to the test.

The cadets from 1st Battalion the Highlanders’ Tain Detachment received a visit from members of the Scottish Ambulance Service during last week’s training night.

The visit was organised as part of the ‘Cadet and the Community’ section of their cadet training syllabus, which aims to promote citizenship and develop better individuals in the future.

The cadets have a look round the ambulance.

The ambulance team, Stuart Richardson and Andy Durrand, gave the detachment a walkthrough of the ambulance and talked the cadets through giving an initial survey of a casualty, as well as some first aid scenarios including simulated injuries from falling from great heights, blood sugars, heart traces, blood pressures and strapping to the spinal board.

Following the visit, Detachment Commander 2Lt Stuart Nicolson said: “What a fantastic pair they were. The event was very engaging and fun!”
