An Army Cadet from Dingwall has been appointed as the highest ranking cadet of their unit.

Andy Tait (17), from 1st Battalion the Highlanders’ Dingwall Detachment, has been promoted to the Battalion’s new Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major.

RSM Tait has been in the ACF since November 2015. During this period, the Ross Company Cadet has climbed through the ranks and taken advantage of everything being an Army Cadet can offer, from representing the Battalion in international shooting competitions at Bisley Ranges in Surrey, to taking part in rock climbing qualification courses in Spain.

Last year Andy was appointed as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Ross & Cromarty, where he assisted the Lord Lieutenant in their official duties as Her Majesty the Queen’s appointed representative of that area.

RSM Tait was officially appointed to his new role during a Ross Company Virtual Parade Night held on Zoom by the Battalion’s Commandant Colonel Mike MacDonald.

Andy is the first cadet from Ross Company to be appointed to Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major since 2005.
