Dundee Area cadets from Angus & Dundee Battalion ACF successfully completed their first Training Weekend of 2023.
The weekend also saw promotions and the presentation of awards at the Battalion’s Cadet Training Centre at Barry Buddon, near Carnoustie in Angus.
Area Commander Charlie Barclay was promoted from Sergeant Major to 2nd Lieutenant after completing his Officers’ Course.
Meanwhile George Boyle, the Dundee Area Training Officer, was appointed Under Officer.
Cadets, including six from 2nd Battalion The Highlanders ACF, successfully completed a variety of awards during the Junior Cadet Instructor Cadre (JCIC).
The Awards included: Basic Board passes; Basic Shooting passes; Youth First Aid courses; 1-Star Shooting passes; and Senior Cadet First Aid at Work (FAW) passes.
The Junior Cadet Instructor Cadre (JCIC) is an integral part of 3-Star training and all cadets at this level take the course. It is designed to teach the cadet how to instruct new entrants and 1-Star cadets in Drill and Turnout and Military Knowledge, Navigation, Skill-at-Arms, and Fieldcraft.
The JCIC has two purposes. Firstly it initiates the senior cadet into the techniques of instruction; and secondly it assesses the cadet’s ability as a potential instructor, with particular reference to their possible selection to undertake the Senior Cadet Instructors Cadre at 4-Star level.
