2nd Battalion The Highlanders ACF had the pleasure of hosting Lord-Lieutenant for Banffshire Mr Andrew Simpson at their Keith Detachment.
The Lord-Lieutenant spoke to the cadets and was keen to hear of the various and valuable life skills taught by the Battalion’s Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
During his visit the Lord-Lieutenant presented a Certificate of Meritorious Service to Sergeant Major Instructor John Cameron (pictured, above).
SMI Cameron started his working life as a young soldier firstly in the Gordon Highlanders and following the amalgamation of the Regiments he saw service with The Highlanders, attaining the rank of Warrant Officer 2nd Class. After a 24-year period of distinguished service in the Armed Forces he trained as an electrician before accepting employment with Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association as a Cadet Administration Assistant, providing support to the Battalion’s Corruna Company.
Some 10 years after leaving the Army SMI Cameron was back in uniform as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer and took on the responsibilities of Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant – a duty which requires significant organisational abilities especially during Annual Camp where SMI Cameron is often first in and last out.
The entire Battalion congratulates SMI Cameron on his well-deserved award and thanks him for his support and guidance.
