An Army Cadet from Kyle of Lochalsh recently had the honour of welcoming The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay to Skye.

1st Battalion The Highlanders Cadet Corporal Alexander Robertson (16), from Kyle Detachment, met the royal couple (pictured, above) on September 16 as part of their visit to Scotland.

Cpl Robertson, who is the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Ross & Cromarty, welcomed the royals upon their arrival in Portree alongside Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Joanie Whiteford.

The Lord-Lieutenant took them on a guided tour around the town as they gained a first-hand insight from local people and businesses into how the local community was faring as it emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Royal tour continued down towards Portree Harbour where they were treated to a special performance from Gaelic singer Robert Robertson, the frontman for folk-rock band Tide Lines.

The Royal Visit came to a close at the end of the pier, where Their Royal Highnesses spoke with local councillors and a range of first responders who played a vital role within the community during the pandemic.

Following the visit Cpl Robertson said: “It was a great opportunity and privilege to be involved in the visit and to get to meet the Duke and Duchess and see what they’re really like. It was pretty exiting seeing as it was my first duty as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.”

This was the first time since 2009 that the Duke and Duchess have visited Skye.
