Awards for cadets and adults

04.08.2017

Over the past few months seven members of 1st Battalion the Highlanders ACF have received presentations from the Lord Lieutenants of their respective area.

Five cadets were appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets and two adults received Lord Lieutenant’s Certificates of Meritorious Service.

The first presentation took place on 10 May at Thurso Cadet Centre to Caithness Company representatives Cadet Sergeant Lani Jones (16) and Captain Neil McLean (65).

Sgt Jones was presented with her certificate of appointment as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Caithness and Capt McLean received a Certificate of Meritorious Service for his outstanding service to the Cadet Force over the past 18 years.

Following the presentation, Sgt Jones said she felt ‘honoured’ to be given the role of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.

The second presentation took place on 17 May in Nairn and was to Colour Sergeant Scott Dawson (17) from Moray Company’s Nairn Detachment, appointing him as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Nairn-shire. Then, on 27 May, at Inverness Sea Cadet’s Headquarters Training Ship Briton, Cadet Sergeant Shawn Feeney (17), from Inverness Detachment, was appointed as one of the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets of Inverness-shire.

On 8 June the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Lieutenant Colonel Grenville Johnston KCSG, appointed his new cadet. The honour went to Cadet Sergeant Liam Brown (17), from Forres Detachment, at a ceremony at the detachment on Forres High Street.

The final presentations took place as part of the Golspie Armed Forces Day Flag Raising, which saw the Lord Lieutenant of Sutherland appoint Cadet Sergeant Rhuaridh Jack (16), from Farr Detachment, as her new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, and Company Sergeant Major Instructor Ian Woolley (56), from Dornoch Detachment, receive his Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service.

❑ Every year each area’s respective Lord-Lieutenant appoints several young people to serve as their Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet. These young people are drawn from various youth organisations from across the area they cover. The role sees each cadet assisting their respective Lord-Lieutenant in their duties and acting as ambassadors for their organisations and young people.
