Buddy Check has received the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award.

Highland RFCA’s Regional Employer Engagement Director Ray Watt presented the ERS Bronze Award to a delighted Chris Platts (pictured above, left), Chief Executive Officer and founder of Buddy Check, in Elgin on 28 February.

The firm – a peer support network looking to change mental health support for the UK Armed Forces community – had previously signed the Armed Forces Covenant in November 2021. The Covenant is a commitment to ensure those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

The Covenant sets companies on the path to have their pledge recognised through the Employer Recognition Scheme. This scheme incorporates prestigious Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, granted in recognition of their pledge to support defence and the Armed Forces Community.

Chris Platts is currently serving in the Royal Air Force, working in a Personnel Support role. The idea of Buddy Check was born in 2021 from previous personal experience with mental health and struggling to find the right support. Chris said: “The task was to create something innovative that was not currently out there that could help improve the Armed Forces.”

Buddy Check provides a safe space, communication tools, guidance and support to the community.
