HRFCA feels need for speed at Knockhill

20.06.2017

HRFCA went full throttle on 18 June after receiving an invitation to watch Round 4 of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship (BSB).

The RAF recruiting team asked us along to Knockhill Racing Circuit for a trackside view of two BSB races featuring the RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki team and talented rider Jake Dixon (21).

Before the high-octane action began at Scotland’s national motorsport centre in Fife, we had the chance to visit the team garages, paddock and pits. We also got to talk to the teams and riders, do some autograph hunting and take some pictures.

The RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki underlined the relevance of the sport to the RAF, with the bike’s design incorporating innovative engineering, advanced lightweight materials and state-of-the-art aerodynamics.

Race 1 went to the RAF team, leaving Jake ecstatic with his first-ever BSB championship win, having qualified second on the grid but finding extra traction and pace helped by the warm and dry conditions.

Jake followed this in Race 2 with another stunning victory – to the joy of his supporters and the rest of the team.

An emotional Jake said: “It’s hard to describe how I’m feeling right now. It’ll take a while to sink in, but a massive thank you to the whole team and the sponsors and to all my family.”

Good luck to the team in BSB Round 5 (of 26) at Snetterton Circuit on 30 June to 2 July and to the RAF recruiting team.

HRFCA have a number of posters signed by Jake Dixon which we’ll send out to bike fans in the Cadets and Reserves on a first-come first-served basis. To get your hands on one just email [email protected].

No you can’t have a shot! Dai John (right) enviously casts an eye over the Kawasaki.

The RAF livery really stands out.

Action from the track.
