Lani is Thurso Young Ambassador

01.08.2017

Caithness Company Cadet Sergeant Lani Jones (16), from 1st Battalion the Highlanders, has been appointed as a Young Ambassador for the area for her outstanding work within the community.

Sgt Jones, from Castletown Detachment, was one of four young people within the community to be appointed as the first Young Ambassador for the Thurso Town Improvements Association (TTIA).

The award recognises the part played by young people in the generation of the life of the town. Lani was nominated for her award by Caithness Company Commander, Major Stephen Mezals, for her work within Caithness Company and the local community.

On top of her cadet duties she is involved with the Caithness School Wind Band and School Choir and is also a member of the Rotary Interact Club, the local martial arts club and the bowling club – to name just a few things she is involved in.

Major Mezals said: “Lani is a valued member of the organisation with her commitment, attendance and helpfulness.” He added: “She is a cadet instructor, teaching younger recruits and is proving to be a great role model and an inspiring leader.”

The award ceremony took place as part of the Midsummer Madness celebration organised by TTIA.
