Prestigious award for ATC flight sergeant

08.06.2017

Flight Sergeant Scott Ross has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Award for Meritorious Service.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne, presented him with his certificate at Balmadies, near Guthrie (pictured, above) on 30 May.

Scott joined the Air Training Corps as an adult member of staff, in the rank of Sergeant (ATC) in January 2009 at 2365 (Brechin) Squadron. In July of that year he transferred to 2422 (Arbroath) Squadron and, in January 2013, was promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant (ATC). He assumed command of the squadron in 2014.

He is an experienced, dedicated and highly enthusiastic youth leader. Under his leadership the Squadron has taken the lead in the local community, especially in June 2016 at the Arbroath Festival of Heroes, where he not only organised the attendance of over 100 cadets, but also served on the organisers’ committee responsible for planning and managing the entire event.

Scott is also a leader in North East Scotland Wing (his Wing HQ) events. He organised the Wing’s participation in the 2016 Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, where he led a contingent of over 50 cadets and staff.

Under his leadership 2422 (Arbroath) Squadron has come on in leaps and bounds, so much so that the Squadron has grown considerably and plans are now in place for a new cadet centre in Arbroath.

For his drive, enthusiasm and commitment to 2422 (Arbroath) Squadron, Scott is thoroughly deserving of a Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.
